ESSENCE COSMETICS | TRIED AND TESTED

Essence is one of the most affordable makeup brands out there. But trust me, it would be a mistake to overlook or even despise this brand just because of the low prices. Some of Essence products are pretty amazing!

THE BASE
OK, Essence foundations are maybe not the most amazing, but there are some pleasant surprises. The Pure Nude makeup is definitely up there when it comes to performance. The foundation blends to the skin very nicely and easily. The coverage is light to medium high and the finish is very natural skin-like. I think that it could work well on variety of skin types. I have tried it in the summer when my skin is more oily with no problems. Also summer is the time when the light color actually matches me. Yes, even the lightest shade is a little too dark and orangey. If you have a slight tan, you should be fine. Another product worth mentioning is the Fixing Translucent powder, in both compact and loose form. After the Rimmel mattifying powder, this is the best one I have ever tried. It is very finely melt, keeps the skin matte for hours and don't be scared - it does not leave white marks. Essence concealers and bronzers are something what I would personally skip. There are better drugstore alternatives out there. Base of course wouldn't be complete without a touch of blush. My absolute favorite is the Soo Blush! cream to powder formula. It blends so smoothly and leaves a beautiful healthy glow. No shimmer or glitter, just radiance. I also own the hyped up Silky Touch blushes, but don't reach for them often.

THE EYES
Essence eyeshadow formulation has improved so much that you probably won't make a mistake picking up any of their singles or palettes. The All About... eyeshadow palettes are especially worth mentioning. The eyeshadows are very soft and smooth and pack quite a lot of pigmentation. Just go and swatch them for yourself if you have the chance! And when you are at it, give also a try to the Essence 2in1 Eyeshadow & Liner cream sticks. They need a minute to set, but once they do, they last all day. Essence liners are a hit or miss. Definitely opt for the waterproof formula when it comes to eyeliner pens and liquid eyeliners. Those from experience usually do not smudge, although if you have really hooded eyelids like me, there might be some transfer at the end of the day. The Gel Eye Pencils are a way better bet. They are maybe a little drier, but they last really well and have become a part of my everyday routine. Essence mascaras are usually raved about, but for me they just do not work. There always seem to be tiny clumps at the tip of the lashes and even the waterproof formulas flake at the end of the day. The Essence brow mascaras are however a different story. Whether you decide for the clear Lash and Brow Gel or the Make Me Brow mascara, I think you won't be disappointed. I have reviewed and compared the Make Me Brow fiber gels in one of my previous posts. And I almost completely forgot to mention Essence eyeshadow bases which are worth a try too.

THE LIPS
Essence lip products are good across the board. They won't blow your mind and they can disappoint you if you blindly believe all the claims. However, if you try the formulas on your lips, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised for the price. Their XXXL lipgloss line is especially great. They are quite opaque and not sticky. The matte formula has a very interesting moose texture which feels feathery light on the lips. I have never felt anything like that before. Plus they also smell like caramel cappuccino :) The Longlasting lipsticks are actually not longlasting at all, but they have a nice and creamy opaque formula and they do well as a regular lipstick. Sheer and Shine line is also good and does stand to its name both in formula and finish. It reminds me the Revlon Lip Butters, only the smell is more chemical. My all time favorite is the shade All About the Cupcake. Interestingly enough, the Mini Sheer Lipbalms pack more color than the Sheer and Shine lipsticks! There are many more products in Essence lip line, but these are the once worth a try, I think. There is a reason why these products are staples in Essence offering.
